Very pleased….researched a lot!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Bought this set in October and am very pleased with it. We debated about buying the set without the radio, but decided to go with this one because we always kept saying we needed a weather radio and thought this could work for that. Well, we are very impressed with the radio and my husband takes it with him everywhere and the sound and clarity is phenomenal. We even hooked up our iTouch to it. I didn’t mean to go on about the radio, but it was such a pleasant surprise. As far as the tools go, A+, the impact drill is so light and my husband(works construction) is the envy of the guys at work and everyone wants one. I bought that drill for him last year and he used that for EVERYTHING. We also had been remodeling our house and it worked great, especially with the rapid charger. He sold that drill so that he could go ahead and get this bigger set. He has been really impressed with this Makita set. I researched A lOT on these, this is the one you want! The impact drill in this set has the most torque/in. and more power than the platinum Makita drills. I know he has used the other tools too and he has had no complaints. The only thing I know he doesn’t like is the bag. He likes the hard case better, but you can buy those fairly cheap online too. The bag is nice in the fact that it’s like a duffle with the pull out handle and wheels, you could use it for a piece of luggage. But not real practical for a construction site though. He keeps it in his truck and takes out what he needs. Plus, the price on Amazon is very reasonable. I looked on ebay as well, you might, maybe, find one cheaper for the same set, but Amazon is very competitive with the ebay prices, plus you get free shipping and a guarantee.
Great Package

Great combination for the price. I’m a landlord with 16 apt to fix and maintain. I did a lot of research before settling on this combo. I’ve been using them for about 3 weeks now and they’re great. The circular saw is light and powerful, the impact drill is amazing, I used the grinder to cut tiles and it works great. Some of the other reviews mentioned poor packaging, mine came very well packed with packing material all around. Maybe amazon got the message and improved it. This combo is great for starters or even veteran professionals. I definitely recommend it.
great buy

I am a contractor and I bought this kit for everyday work. I have used Makita 18v lithium tools in the past so I know they hold up very well. The batteries have excellent run time and the tools are all light and very ergonomic. I have also used other brands, but none compare to the Makita kit. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this kit to anyone. And with the price, you can’t pass it up.
Best tools ever!

I love these tools, the batteries take no time to charge and they last longer, the drills are awesome and the sawz-all supprised me with its power!
Can’t beat it
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Let me start by saying that yes, the packaging is horrible. It ships in the factory box, which gets all beat up. Check the contents upon delivery. I used the free super-saver shipping, and it went fed-ex and took only a day. I checked the contents and everything appeared to be OK, despite being shifted around and jostled. The tools are GREAT. I have nothing bad to say about them (aside from the flashlight, which should use LED technology instead of incandescent). The circular saw works great (i just wish the blade was on the right instead of the left). Battery life is as expected on a cordless tool, but with the 30 minute charge time it’s not an issue. I have nothing bad to say about any of the other tools in the kit. The radio was really of no use to me and I already sold it on Ebay. Those little 3 1/2″ speakers just can’t pump out the volume needed on a big job site, so I’ll stick with my Milwaukee radio there. I’ve already purchased additional tools and batteries, and have become a hardcore Makita fan! You can’t beat Amazon’s price on this set, either, so don’t even try!
Great Tools… Bad Bag
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Buying these Makita tools from Amazon are a great value and are top quality but upon reciving my order I found that my contractor bag was ripped and the zipper was broken. After weeks of playing pass the buck with Makita customer service, Amazon decided to replace the whole unit to make it right. Although replacing the bag alone would have been far more simple and efficient and the cost of shipping the whole unit back and forth would much more than the retail cost of the bag alone. But of course that would be too easy and cheap so here i go packing and sending back my tools. GO FIGURE!
Get rid of the excuses to improve your house…
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I wanted to get a good set of cordless tools for about under a year. I figured there are so many little side project around my house, one of my biggest deterents is set up, making sure the extension cord is long enought or sometimes requireing two, finding the right plug; then there is the packing up. In all the time it would take me to set up my work station, I’d talk myself out of doing my side projects.
I had settled on the Makita combo set or the Milwakee 28V. I hear great things about Milwakee, plus my dad corded Milwakee sawzall has been going strong for over 15 years.
But, this was the kicker for me in my decision making. I got more tools from this 18V set than I would the Milwakee 28V set. If I needed more power, then I could just get the corded tools which I happen to have. i.e. this hammer drill could not drive a screw through some old wood, I could neither back out the screw or drive it in. So, I brought in my Corded Porter Cable screw gun, and it drove the screw no problem at all. I know I could have drilled a bigger pilot hole, but needless to say, by that time, the screw was stuck.
The set from what I found cannot replace your corded tools power… But, that is if you have a good set of corded tools already. If you need max power in a battery pack, you should do more research on the 28V tools.
Quick run down of tools:
1) flashlight… Tremendously bright. Will light up a room even if you have it on the ground.
2) Sawzall… Tooless blade change is great. Has quite a bit of power. You could have endless uses for this sawzall even if it isn’t construction handy work. I could see situations where I can trim 5″ tree limbs with the right blade, no cables to cause dangers.
3) Circualr saw, cuts 2X4’s well. I was able to cut several plywoods as well. Of course I’m not contractor so I’m not going to drain the battery with my small use of it.
4) Impact drill will screw a screw in with authority – the screw will be pipping hot when you take it out. I tried using this to remove the above mention screw, but the hammering action was eating the head of the screw.
5) Grinder, I haven’t worked with it, but seems to give a good kick when you push the trigger.
6) Hammer drill… I had problems with utilizing as a screw gun. But the drill works quite well. The Hammer drill option works good as well.
7) Portable radio… works well. But, I find you have to move it around in order to get optimal reception. When I put it in certain places, the static will be bad, but if I move it around, I can put it where the reception is crystal clear. The MP3 plug is a good option, but the “SOUND IS LOW” in comparison to the normal radio option. You won’t have to squint your ear to hear, but you will notice the difference.
Side note, you get all or nothing power, which is good. When the battery runs out, the tool just will not work. But you will get power up until the power drains enough not to operate the tools.
Great Set for the average DIY
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
After doing lots of research and going through the reviews I chose the LXT601 only to find the LXT702 was less expensive and included the radio. I’m an average go who does all my own work as a homeowner. I’m currently finishing my basement and really like this kit. Here’s a breakdown of the tools with positive and negative feedback.
Impact Driver — Great addition having never used a coordless before. Obviously not as much torque as an airgun, but I find myself loving it for working on the car, and for driving lag bolts. I’ve yet to wear out a charge during use with this. Grade = A+
Drill Driver — Great Feel, Great Torque for my needs. I won’t by another driver without the LED either…It really helps light up your work. Another feature that is nice is the racketing chuck as you tighten. Grade A+
Recipricating Saw — Good for small jobs. I’ve used it for some lead pipe cutting and trimming down small trees as well as cutting off some engine mounts. Works as expected. Too heavy. 5 minute job with continous hard running will deplete the battery and leave to hot to charge right away. Grade C
Circular Saw — Only use so far for some 2X4, but it sliced through no problem. Binding wood will lock up the blade through. Keep in mind it is a coordless saw. If you want more go electric. Grade B
Grinder — Works great…Use to smooth out some knots in the cement wall. I haven’t used the cutting wheel yet. Grade A
Radio — Heavy duty but bad reception in my basement, and no charger. It does have an mp3 port though, so IPOD would probably be nice to have on a job site or outside in the yard. Descent Sound. C
Flash light — Crappy. Not that bright and I feel like I’m going to break it when I handle it, but it’s not the reason I bought the set. Grade D.
I wish it had a hard case, but after you get the tools back in it’s not a problem to haul. It’s just getting the stuff back in that’s irritating.
That darn shipping box
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Love the tools, power, good hand fit, good battery life. But like others have stated, the box it was shipped in litteraly fell apart as it came off the brown truck.Thought the led lights on the drills were a gimmick but they really do help.
a great combo bad package
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have to agree with some of the other reviewers this is a great combo kit put in a very poor package. Four stars for the kit zero stars for how it arrived. The box was torn half open and when I told the UPS driver that I wanted to inspect it before accepting and lifted the flap he said “I can’t let you open it if you don’t accept it” I said “what do you mean it already is half open, I can see all the tools floating around inside.” If I had to do all over again I would not take the chance of getting a product that is incomplete and then having to get in corrected while they already had my money.
Great price Great tools Just don’t expect to receive it all
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Just like the others I receive the package broken open missing the screw tip for the impact, no grinding wheels, no tool for the grinder locknut,
But the UPS driver did come back and hand me sawzall blade from the floor of his truck???
Great item poorly packed by makita..Thanks Amazon Cs!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I believe that Makita could have done a better job here,as far as boxing this item, perhaps they figure that they are shipping large Quanities to say HD and the individual boxes are then placed on the floor. As far as the individual boxes this item is not packed for shipping, the radio is in a seperate box and is well packed within the larger box,The larger box is single walled cardboard and the rest of the tools are minimally supported within and are easily shifted and jumbled in the shipping process the heavy box 54 lbs is not easily manuvuered by handlers.UPS tried to deliver a shippment and the box was so beaten up I refused it fearing I would be responsible for the return.I was I admit Skeptical of Amazon Customer Service via India?I WAS WRONG They performed sterlingly the 2nd box was sent out fed ex overnight and arrived perfect shape ontime. If there was a a comparable price on a local item I would have shopped local.Amazon saved me Mucho$$$$$$,and considering how their Customer Service Agents performed they earned my Admiration and Gratitude. Now as for the tools,I have just used the radio it is awesome.I bought this item on the recommendation of a good friend who is a Tool Guru, and a carpenter I have known for 20+ years, his son has used this set (the six tools sans radio) for a year now and gives them a high rating.I think if I was a framer (I am not)and expected to use the saws 9-5 I would go for a 24volt,or 36 volt hilti,Milw,Dewalt.Otherwise this seems like a good set
Great Tools Set for the Price, Needs Better Packaging
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I received this product via free shipping, and like the other reviewers, mine was poorly packaged. No box in a box, just the mfr box. Corners were dented, box was torn up, looked like it had been dropped on one end a few times. Inside, I found all the tools, but some of the items had shifted and were scuffed up a bit. Some items were floating around, like the screwdriver bit, and the sawsall bit.
However, all the tools functioned properly, and I got this set for a good price. These are top quality tools. Even the radio sounds decent, with a aux input for a MP3 player. Would have been nicer if the radio played CD’s, but it doesn’t.
For the price, this is a great deal, so just refuse the package if it arrives beat up so you can avoid the return shipping charges and get another one.
A little unrelated, but when I first found this item it was priced at $494, but when I checked out about two hours later, the unadvertised “sale” on this item ended, and the price went up to $549. Called Amazon directly, and they wouldn’t budge. A little cheesy in my opinion, but still a good deal at the new price.
Would be a five star with sturdier packaging.
Nice Set but, poorly packaged.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I just received the Makita LXT702 in the mail today. The tools are great, but the set came poorly packaged in a light cardboard box with pictures of the product on the outside. After opening the box, I discovered that the grinder and one battery were missing. Amazon will exchange the product for a new one, but I am responsible for the return shipping. This box is large and heavy (54 lbs) and is going to cost over $50 to ship back. Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistake. Buy the product locally so you know you will get what you pay for!
Update – Amazon ended up taking care of my problem, and I got a full set sent to me without paying the return postage. I tried to resolve the problem by using the automated process for exchanging items. After several messages back and forth with Amazon Customer Service, I decided to click on the “Call Me” button to speak directly with a Customer Service Representative. My phone rang immediately, and had the problem resolved within 15 minutes. Apparently, when a product arrives missing parts, it is considered defective and Amazon will pay for the return shipping to replace the set.
If you buy the set, just make sure you check the contents before you sign for it. The packaging is really light duty for this heavy set of tools. But for the price, it’s worth the wait. I could not find it locally for a price even close to Amazon.
WHY WOULD YOU BUY LXT601? THIS IS CHEAPER!!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I just ordered this makita set from amazon after doing extensive research. The LXT601 is the same set as this except for the jobsite radio is included in the LXT702. The LXT702 set is cheaper for some reason so I would recommend that you buy it if you are looking to buy the LXT601. I havent received the kit yet so I cannot comment on the quality. I have owned other makita cordless tools in the past and i can tell you that they have all been of superior quality. I will update this after receiving the kit.
