For all home improvement projects, power tools are an absolute necessity. There are some basic power tools such as jigsaw, circular saw, sander and router that are most commonly used. Circular saw is excellent for cutting down wood, especially sheet materials and plywood. Sander uses power for sanding, and hence saves incredible amount of drudgery and time. Jigsaw is used to cut patterns and holes in the panels, and routers can be used for various small projects that need making recesses and grooves. Various Power Tool Accessories Bit set is one of the most common power tool accessories, and includes bits of most common sizes to complete daily tasks. There is also a hex shank locking system that prevents the problems of spinning bits while working on the projects. The changes are easy and quick so that the job can be finished faster. Some of the most commonly used power tool accessories include alignment tools, drill and drill press accessories, bases, stands and supports, multifunction table, motor accessories, lathe accessories, jigs and fixtures, table saw accessories, pneumatic accessories, INCRA Miter gauges and reciprocating saw accessories.

About Makita's 18V Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless Tool Series
As one of the pioneers driving the cordless tool revolution, Makita changed the game with its breakthrough 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Series. Three years after its debut, Makita's LXT Series has grown from seven to over 35 tools, providing a wide range of cordless solutions for professional tradesmen. Makita also added 18V compact lithium-ion for cordless power in a more compact size. Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries and ENERGY STAR rated Optimum Charging System provide several benefits over old battery technology. When compared to traditional 18V Ni-Cd batteries, Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have 40% less weight, longer run time, and five-times lower self-discharge to keep cells active and ready to use at any time.

Makita's 18V Lithium-Ion battery delivers 2,000 cycles--2.5X more than Ni-Cd. In addition, built-in shock absorbing features help protect the battery, and 16 firm-holding contact terminals deliver constant high power. During the charging process, a built-in memory chip in the battery communicates with the Optimum Charger for a more efficient charge, extending the battery life. Makita's Optimum Charger is also faster: it will charge an 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery in just 30 minutes, and an 18V compact lithium-ion battery in only 15 minutes. Makita also offers a Rapid Automotive Charger for 18V LXT and 18V compact lithium-ion batteries that plugs into 12V DC sockets equipped in most automobiles and trucks for added mobility. Makita's growing line of LXT cordless tool solutions features a wide range of industrial-quality power tools, including driver-drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, saws, grinders, screwguns, rotary hammers, and more. The LXT Series also offers a jobsite radio, rechargeable flashlights, and several different combo kits.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’m going to attempt to make this short, sweet and to the point, as MANY others have already outlined this tool perfectly.

I have had this drill for about 3 months now and have been nothing but pleased with it. In fact, my BHP452Z has been stripped of its belt holster and 3.0aH battery and has now been retired to it’s case! This little white wonder is now my daily driver! (Get it? Daily DRIVER….thank you, I’m here all week……Try the veal)

In all seriousness I have nothing but praise for this tool. It’s lightweight, well built, tons of torque, long lasting/quick charging batteries and the list goes on and on. I have seriously tried to look for faults and the only negative I can come up with is the white gets dirty easily. Yes. That’s all I can come up with. And I love the white color vs. the old Makita blue, so I just try to keep my greasy mitts off the white part as much as possible. I have yet to have any trouble out of my 6 Lithium Ion batteries, so it looks as if the bad batteries/chargers have been filtered out.

Makita has really struck gold with this lil guy. I have pretty much every brand in my arsenal and always find myself reaching for this little guy. (On a side note, the BTD142HW Impact Driver makes an AWESOME companion.)

This is the Best Drill I have ever owned. I am remodeling an old house, and it has gone the distance. The battery last a long time, and I have an extra battery to put in when this one runs dead. But the best part is that you can plug the battery in the charger, and by the time you finish taking a break, it is fully charged. Yes, it charges in only 15 minutes. And the power is amazing. Yes, It is “Sweet”!

No good for precision work, wobble (runout) issue
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased this makita after reading all of the great reviews on amazon and other sites. I was deciding on the milwaukee 18v vs this one. Well, I really wanted to stay with the makita really, but due to the “wobble”, it was useless to me. My 20 year old corded craftsman with bad bearings held the bits steadier than the makita! Anyway, I had read other reviews mentioning the “wobble”, but chalked them up to lemons or just a “bad batch”. All I had to do was put in a spade bit or a very small bit, and it was clear that mine had the wobble too :(

I can’t speak for the long term of the milwaukee, but on the surface, it has a more solid feel (parts of the housing are actually metal), a gauge on each battery, and MUCH nicer case that is actually designed to hold the drill rather than just partition off the sections inside. I have been looking for an 18v drill for about 3-4 weeks now reading everything I can online, and it has been almost worse than used car shopping!

I see a lot of ppl saying that the milwaukee is “underpowered”, but I don’t believe that to be the issue. I believe that possibly makita is OVERpowering their drill thus causing heat and battery issues that I’ve seen people talking about. Also, just because the batteries charge in 15 minutes doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. I have years of experience charging nimh, nicd, and lithium batteries and I can tell you that quick charging leads to batteries overheating and hot batteries lead to damaged battery packs. If 30-60 minutes is too long for you to wait, then I would suggest purchasing extra batteries rather than quick charging batteries potentially damaging them. Charging technology has come a long way, but it’s still not to the point to be able to consistently, SAFELY charge batteries whether they are nimh or lithium. Everyone is concerned about the drills being made in China, but you need to consider the quality and care of the battery packs too.

    Light and Powerful
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I am very happy with the performance of this drill. Battery run-time is even better than I expected, and recharging takes as little as ten minutes. My only quibble is that the white color shows dirt very easily, making my expensive new drill look years old after less than a month.

  7. M. Petrie says:

    Great for small hands
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have used this drill since March 2009. I bought it because I am a woman with very small hands; women’s small garden gloves are too big. I have to buy kid’s gloves. I had previously owned an 18V Ryobi, but was thankful after many years of use that it died. The battery pack was so large I would have to hold it between my knees and use two hands while attempting to pry the battery off for recharging. The two drills that I looked at were Milwaukee and Makita because both of them have the smallest battery that I could pull off easily. I went with the Makita only because it was in stock at the time I went to purchase one.

The Makita is extremely light and well-balanced, thereby eliminating the need to rest. I have only recharged the battery once since owning it. With the push of the front button, the drill easily slides backward. No need to push buttons simultaneously on opposite sides. I don’t use it daily, but at least once a week and it is a quick 15 minute charge. The only disappointment to this drill was the light and I really would have given the drill 4 1/2 stars if the rating would have allowed. The light creates light below where you actually need it, so your screw is still in the dark. Of course, I don’t do a lot of drilling in low light, so it isn’t that big of a deal. However, if a manufacturer is going to put an add-on feature on their drill, then they should get it right. Whenever I use it in low light, I can’t help but wonder if the manufacturer actually tested it! The best light system would have been around the tip area, but like I said before, I do not use it in low light very often. If you do much drilling in low light, I would recommend purchasing a headlamp.

I would recommend this drill for home diy and especially female diy-ers as it is light weight, ergonomically designed, quick charging, and holds the charge for long periods.

Makita BDF452HW LXT 18v Drill (3.5 lbs with battery), 3 year warranty (battery 1-year only… Makita did a great job. I also bought a Hitachi DS18DFLPC 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill Kit $187.99 (3.8 lbs with battery). it comes with a 5-year warranty for both battery and drill.

I used both Drills side-by side to install air conditioning system and window coverings too. And to test the power, comfort and performance of each drill set. note: many user have complained and about the Makita Lithium-ion Battery failure. Have had no such experience yet, also many of these complains were on batteries made 2 or more years ago. I wondered if these batteries were made in China. The NEWER BATTERIES are made in Japan ONCE AGAIN perhaps to bring back QUALITY CONTROL that so many companies have outsourced to make more profit using cheap labor. Anyway, I Liked the feel of both drills equally. However the Chuck on the Makita is superior, the Hitachi often had slippage with some bits. This is a very important issue. The Makita had superior Power (450 pft vs 374 pft) for the Hitachi. Game Over. I returned the Hitachi DS18DFLPC 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill Kit to Costco where I purchased it for $99.99

Makita 18.0 Volt Lithium Cordless Drill Review
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought the Makita 18.0 volt lithium-ion cordless drill when they first came out several years ago. Within 4 months, both batteries were toast. Not sure if the charger caused this or leaving the batteries on the charger for extended periods of time during winter. Based on this experience I would not buy another Makita cordless drill. I have owned other Makita drills with no problems and believe they make a good product, just not cordless drills with the lithium battery.

    Excellent Drill!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this drill now for about a month and have been utilizing it during a kitchen remodel. I researched a lot (A LOT) before I decided to purchase and found this one to be the most bang for the buck. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Pros: Excellent power, compact, comfortable, lots of torque, lightweight

Cons: The battery power is short. I screwed up 4-4×12; 2 – 2×10; 4 – 2×8 pieces of sheetrock and used up power in one battery. My Dad’s 10 year old 12v makita outlasted me. However, the second battery and 15 minute full charge time made it just fine.

Overall, I am very happy with this drill. What they say about the batteries is true. Doesn’t last the longest, but it’s perfect for my project and the 15 minute recharge time is great. I wouldn’t hesitate in buying this one again!

I have been using this Makita Drill for almost two years, I used it and abuse it and it’s working as good as the first day I bought it. I will not bore you with too much details but I will list the pros and cons

    Good:

    - Looks very nice

    - Very Powerful

    - Light weight which is very nice when you are on a ladder.

    - Battery Life is Super and charges in about 10 minutes

    - Small LED light is very useful

    - Customer Service are real professionals from a local center and they will work hard on making you happy. I had a defective battery once as the other review said but why worry when one call can get you a new battery with no cost even for shipping?

    Bad

I will let you know when I find one =)

Makita BDF452HW 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Driver Drill Kit. This drill looks and feels awesome. It is convenient, lightweight, and easy to handle. Unfortunately, the batteries died after only two months of use, regardless of my religious charging. The batteries drained, and now I am kicking myself for getting a battery-charged drill! The new battery that Makita sells to make this drill continue to work, will cost me close to $100 bucks!!! Only electric drills for me from now on!

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I did have a bit of a slow down as it didn’t have enought juice to drill a bolt into wood when the pre-drilled hole wasn’t big enough. Besides this its the best drill to own and keeping up with the modern technology.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
For years I struggled with a drill that constantly needed to be charged and had limited torque. This drill is always at the ready for any small home job that comes up. I still haven’t used up the first battery charge and have a second charged battery ready when needed. Makita makes great power tools and this drill is no exception. Money well spent.

    Short Battery Life
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This drill is very compact and light but the battery life is not that great. After 1 year of medium use the batteries failed.

I suspect this is the trade-off between battery life and weight.

  19. E. Myers says:

    Great drill, almost perfect…
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this drill for over a year now. I’m not a professional, but I am a hobby woodworker, so I’ve probably had a few more drills than the average home owner. This is the best drill I’ve ever had. It is light & well balanced, fits my hand perfectly (average size male hands), and the batteries start out incredible. The only reason I did not give it a perfect score is because the batteries both died eventually. I took them to the local Makita Factory Center here in Atlanta, and they replaced both of them no questions asked. Apparently this has been a common problem with some of the earlier versions. I don’t know if this issue has been fixed, but I guess time will tell. Either way, as long they will stand behind their product like they did, I’ll keep buying.

    Great Screwgun – Terrible Chuck
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This screwgun is fantastic except for one major problem. The wieght, battery life, recharge time, & power are terrific. Much better than the Dewalt’s that we’ve always used. However, the one major downfall is the chuck is constantly loosening. The screwtips/bits are always falling out & you need to always tighten the chuck before screwing/drilling almost every time. If Makita can fix this issue they would have a top-rated tool.

I’ve used this drill several times now and I can say that it has more torque in it’s direct drive setting than I can hardly hold. I’m a 285# man and have trouble keeping the torque from twisting my wrists.

I removed two 4″ long lag screws (1/2″ hex head) from a 4×4 mailbox post today that had been in place for several years. Once I figured out how to brace myself against the torque to keep from hurting my arms the screws were no match.

    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought the 3 piece combo kit and was very exicted to receive it. Unfortunately its going back as the drill was clearly defective. The chuck had a visible wobble. Firstly, the plastic piece around the chuck was not even close to being round. Secondly, the chuck itself had a visible wobble. While testing the drill it had a lot of vibration. After drilling test holes with different sized bits, it was clear that the holes were not clean. On the plus side the drill has great ergonomics and is light and very comfortable in the hand.

Will I get a replacement? No. I’m going to try the Bosch Compact Tough 18v

A light on a drill seems like a gimmick, but I can tell you that the light from the l.e.d. really comes in handy in tight places and make seeing the small screw heads in low light very easy.Cordless drills are made to go everywhere and now that includes the dark. A great drill and a name you can trust. Lightweight and powerful and charges very quickly, great for the homeowner and craftsman alike.

    great drill
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have owned this drill for about 2 years and have not had any of the problems other people have. I was warned of lithium-ion batteries before I purchased. I think the bottom line is if your not someone who uses your tools almost everyday or a couple times a week, then stay away from the lithium-ion products. If you do this stuff for a living, and use your tools often, then this is a great drill. Just like a car battery if you don’t drive a car for awhile it will die! Other than that, I have noticed that the chuck does drop bits, however, I have a habit to always tighten my chuck as I work, so this has not been an inconvinence for me. All in all I love this drill, I completely stopped using my bosch and my porter cable cause of this light and powerful drill, and I absolutely love the led light. it is so helpful when I’m drilling holes in attics to run electrical wires and cant see. I wont even bring a flashlight I just bring this drill and use it as a drill/light. I would not replace this drill, and have been considering purchasing the 18 volt hammer/drill and impact gun. absolutely love this drill recommend it to anyone who works for a living.

I purchased this drill along with a Bosch 36618 and gave both a workout in my garage. My test used 2″x6″ pressure treated lumber. My goal was to test power, battery endurance and comfort of use. With both drills, I drilled qty (10) 1″ spade bit holes, qty (20) 3/8″ bit holes and sunk qty (75) 2″ drywall screws. My hand and arm were tired so I quit, but suffice it to say, neither drill quit, so I called battery endurance test a tie. I believe the Bosch had slightly more power and speed, but the Makita had plenty of both for my needs. Both drills gave your arm a good twist when the spade bit would catch and hold. In a close race, I declared the Bosch the winner in power category. The Makita was clearly a more comfortable drill to use. It fit my hand well and the trigger was easy to use. The Bosch handle is configured at a bit of an angle and while using the spade bit the back of the drill seemed to press into my hand. Also, during use my finger naturally moved to the bottom of the trigger and it became a bit uncomfortable. Both drills are very well built and neither got hot during my tests. At the end of the day I preferred the Makita because it was slightly smaller (about 3/4″ shorter) and clearly had a more comfortable grip position during use.
